Ps Gil Balignasay, Marikina Bible Church, Philippines.
Wayne Alcorn,
keynote speaker from Brisbane, had an
inspiring message from Nehemiah chapter one
– relevant for each of our cities, but also
for the global communities we care about in
mission.
-
IDENTIFICATION: What’s
the state of my city? Nehemiah 1:2
-
PASSION: You’ll never
win your city until you have a passion.
Nehemiah 1:4
-
ACTION: Give yourself
to the city. Nehemiah 2:3-5
The
“Harvest Now”
workshop was packed!
Bruce Taylor (Vice President, Asian
Outreach International)
spoke about the changing face
of mission in Asia:
1.
GLOBALISATION: We do live in a global
village now, and 64% of the world lives in
Asia. The world has changed the way it
operates, eg technical support staff
offshore in India or the Philippines, more
people in China with university degrees than
the entire population in the UK.
2.
URBANISATION: By 2020 one out of every three
people on the planet will live in a city in
Asia.
3.
REGIONALISATION: Different nationalities are
coming together under regional agreements
and concordance; borders are less important
in the interests of economics and
development of commodities, eg Mekong Region
4.
CHRISTIANISATION: Significant populations
are shifting to accept the Christian faith
or at least Christian principles, eg China
There are significant opportunities in the
MARKET PLACE with Asia – the centre of
gravity for business has shifted to Asia.
He finished with asking “what is the state
of my “city”, ie Asia? See

Pastor Sam Jebadurai (Chennai Elim
Glorious Revival Church) then shared
about India: a country that worships 330
million gods. A country with a massive
history of missionary activity: from St
Thomas (who went to Chennai!) through to
William Carey and Amy Carmichael.
He shared about the passion his church has
for the lost and their habit of prayer and
fasting. The women fasting regularly for 3
days, while the men fast for up to 21 days.
His Bible students pray in tongues for an
hour each morning before their time of
regular Bible study and prayer. No wonder
they are seeing such revival!
Starting just 3 years ago, they now have 22
daughter churches and the mother church has
over 3000 members.

http://www.appamonline.com/ to see a pan
shot of what this looks like!
Prayer We then gathered in prayer to
pray in clusters for nations in Asia that
the Holy Spirit had placed on our hearts.
The presence of the LORD was certainly
tangible as we prayed.
An excellent website with media downloads
has been set up at
http://www.idop.org.nz/ for the
International Day of Prayer for the
Persecuted Church (11th November)
which I encourage you to use for your church
intercession.
